Old and New

The welcome challenge in this garden was to retain/ re:use the lovely existing York Stone in the lower patio area of this garden & combine it with other materials in the new design. Considering what can be retained in a garden is important as we think about reducing waste and lessening the impact of building gardens on the environment.

Another important factor here was to retain the views to the orchard beyond at the back of the garden which gives such a feeling of space that my clients in this case so enjoy. This garden which we designed to be set on a 45 degree angle to the house provides different areas for relaxing/entertaining & Dining and offers a dynamic route through the space. Beautiful grey clay pavers tie in perfectly with the York Stone. Large Corten Steel planters “pop” against the greys and give height to shaped evergreen screening trees.
